I am Weary, but I Know Your Touch Restores My Life

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." -Matthew 11:28 (The Message)

This weekend, I discovered a new definition of rest. Rest is not necessarily napping or being made physically un-tired (ya I know-bad grammar...don't judge me). It's not laying down after a day of work and watching TV or catching up on the day's social network happenings. Rest is when you are doing what you were created to do. It may make you even more tired than before, but it restores your heart in incredible ways. This weekend, I did work crew for a Young Life fall weekend. Was it tiring? Absolutely! I haven't worked that hard in awhile. BUT it was so amazing! My heart is so restored...so refreshed. If you saw my blog post from last week, you know this weekend was EXACTLY what I needed. I needed rest. I needed a time to think of nothing but loving others in the way that God loves me- aka part of what I was created to do. Just like in Matthew 11:28, God showed me how to "take a real rest." And it's true-it means living freely and lightly. It means living to the full. It means contentment, fulfillment, joy, peace, restoration. It means living the life you were made for.
