January 17, 2012

helloooo againnnnn

Well, now that I've been MIA from the Blog World for over a month, I figured I'd at least stop in and say hello and Happy New Year! I found this quote back near the end of December and promised myself I'd post it on January first, but ended up being in Atlanta for the entire week after New Years and just didn't get around to it. So, my belated New Year's wish to all:
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.
-Neil Gaiman
Gosh, I'm such a sucker for good words.
Aaaaand I have so much I need to write about that I hardly know where to start!
-I have a post that I started during finals that I'll be posting soon. It'll be worth the wait.

-I'm back in Charlottesville after the fastest break of my life. It was a wonderful break, but very different from breaks of the past. I didn't see my friends nearly as much as I would have liked to, which was very sad. I did get a ton of sweet, sweet time in with my family, though. So that was great. I also worked out basically every day and finally got to a place where I was content with my body (yay, Body Peace!) but then went to Atlanta and haven't really worked out since. Oh well, the point was, my break was wonderful yet different from what I had been expecting.

-I got to go to Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (which we lost, but oh well, it was still a blast). My friends and I turned a 9 hour car ride into a 16 hour car ride...I don't even know how that happened. We had so much fun and I totally fell in love with ATL. Like basically I'm moving there after college. It's for real. We spent NYE in downtown Atlanta for the game, then went to Underground Atlanta (SO SKETCHY) for the "Peach Drop" (like the ball drop, but with a giant peach...) and fireworks. Then we went to Waffle House with some of our friends from school. It was probably the best New Year's Eve I've had in a long time (not to say I would choose a chocolate chip waffle over a NYE kiss every year. I'm just sayin it was fun to be with a great group of girls and I don't regret that my first meal of 2012 was a chocolate chip waffle. #YOLO).

-The day of the game, my friend and I spontaneously decided to go to Passion, which is a huge Christian conference for 18-25 year olds. There are wonderful speakers (Beth Moore, Francis Chan, John Piper, Christine Caine, and Louie Giglio) and the worship is AWESOME (Chris Tomlin, Mat Redman, Kristian Stanfill, David Crowder Band, Christie Nockels, Hillsong United, etc). I originally had decided against going to Passion, but the Lord had other plans (as per usual) and opened door after door in order to keep me in the city. On our way down to ATL, I found out my internship was moved, meaning I could actually go. Then, my friend's mom found tickets online (even though it was sold out) at a reduced price. Finally, we were able to extend our stay at the house we were already stationed at, which I am so grateful for. I didn't have enough clothes or supplies for Passion (didn't even have my Bible), but that's what Target is for, right? It was a major growing experience for me because it definitely took me out of my comfort zone. That was hugely spontaneous for my Type-A, plan-as-much-as-possible self. But I don't regret it- it was so so so so SO great. I hope to write more about Passion at a later date!

-I spent the rest of break relaxing and job shadowing. I also went snowboarding one day, which was awesome. I have a special place in my heart for Snowshoe...it's just one of those places that makes me wanna stay forever. The conditions were superb--it even snowed while I was there--and the company was even better (shout out to Landon for his patience and snowboarding skillz). It was definitely one of my favorite days of this year so far.

-As I said before, I'm back in Charlottesville. It was so hard to say bye to my parents and sister and puppy for some reason. However, I have literally been so happy since getting back. I've been with Chi-O girls for most of the time since we are going through Rush. It's exhausting, but I love my sorority and it's nice getting so much bonding time with everyone! The past couple of nights have been my favorites ever...I've just been spending time hanging out with some of my great friends--watching movies, baking goodies, and having the good talks (you know, the ones where you stay up until 2am and don't even realize how late it is). It has been the best. My heart is full.

-Classes start tomorrow. I'm not 100% sure what I'm taking this semester, but I think I'm content with my schedule right now. There are no science classes on the list, so that's a great start. I'm so over that subject.

-Is anyone else obsessed with Dance Moms? I just got hooked on it last week and "obsession" is an understatement. The girls are just so GOOD and the moms are just so BAD. It's amazing.

-I just feel so blessed. Really, we all are--please don't forget it.

I'm so excited for everything this semester has to bring, and hopefully I won't totally neglect this blog! I'll try to update some and get some good writing in...I've just had a bit of writer's block recently. But this is my official return to Life in Progress. Hope 2012 has been treating everyone well so far! Talk to y'all soon :)
