ch-ch-ch-changesss

Look here, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there for a year..." How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog-it's here a little while, then it's gone. What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that."
-James 4:13-15 (NLT)

This verse was referenced in my devotional, and it hit me reallllly hard because it basically sums up my life right now. You know, I had my four years of college all.planned.out. It was great. I was excited. And then, just like that, God decided to teach me a little bit about the inadequacy of my plans/timing. And I was like, OK, God...right. I make a to-do list for the next day every night when I go to bed. I am addicted to sticky notes and calendars. My plans? Inadequate? What?! But He did not relent. Have you ever done a trust fall? It's one of the most basic team building exercises in the books. You basically just fall back and *hope* that your partner catches you. God is using that on me right now. Today's devo reads, "I am developing your ability to trust Me, to lean on Me, rather than on your understanding. Your natural preference is to plan out your day, knowing what will happen when. My preference is for you to depend on Me continually, trusting Me to guide you and strengthen you as needed. This is how you grow strong in your weakness."

Proverbs 16:9 says, "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps." Boy, does He ever. He likes to surprise us sometimes. He knocks us off our pedestals and dares us to trust Him and let Him take the wheel. If you're anything like me, your initial response is probably, "Are you kidding me? Just when I have it all figured out...just when I'm all settled in...you switch things up on me?! For real?" But He promises that His plans are legit. And they are. I just think it'd be cool if He could leave me some sticky notes sometimes.
