imparting grace, part II

Just in case you're having one of those days when basically nothing you want to say falls into the category of "gracious" (because I definitely am):

Ephesians 4:29 (The Message)
Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.
Ephesians 4:29 (Amplified Bible)
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it.
Ephesians 4:29 (New Living Translation)
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Ephesians 4:29 (New King James Version)
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29 (New American Standard Bible)
Let no [a](A)unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for (B)edification [b]according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29 (New International Version)
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Colossians 4:6 (New International Version)
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6 (The Message)
Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.
Colossians 4:6 (Amplified Bible)
Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you].
Colossians 4:6 (New Living Translation)
Let your conversation be gracious and attractive[a] so that you will have the right response for everyone

Proverbs 31:26 (New Living Translation)
When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.
Proverbs 31:26 (The Message)
When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.
Proverbs 31:26 (Amplified Bible)
She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].
Proverbs 31:26 (New American Standard Bible)
She (A)opens her mouth in wisdom, and the [a]teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

And of course, the age-old saying:
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

conclusion: as much as it stinks, some things are just better left unsaid.
