We Cannot Live on Bread Alone

Confession: I have taken God for granted.
I feel like up until now, I haven't taken the time to grasp how much I NEED the Lord. After mulling it over some...I've realized that I can't do anything without him. Nothing. Last night, Jenny and I took Body Attack (an hour of non-stop cardio...it never fails to kick our booties). About half-way through, I was struggling. Jenny was quick to remind me of Philippians 4:13- "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It was just the pick-up that I needed, and it also got me thinking. God is there through everything. Even in things as simple as an exercise class, he pulls me through. This week, I came across Psalm 55:22- "Cast all your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you." Boy, is it true. He is the Ultimate Sustenance- our only means of living a satisfying and fulfilling life. Without him, we are nothing. Without him, we have no peace when we get that rejection letter from University of fill-in-the-blank. No life jacket when drowning in the stress of school or work. No glue for a broken heart. No hope in tragedy. No roots to keep us in place when the world spins out of control. Without him, we have no means of life. This year, I've been through a lot. My friends have been through a lot. Families and companies have been through a lot. It's been a wake-up call. People have been forced to comprehend the fact that without God, there is no meaning to life. We have realized that, as Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." When our lives turn upside down (and actually, even when they're right-side up) we must hang tightly to the hope we have in Christ and the life God promises us in his Word. We cannot forget that HE is our daily bread, whether we're glued together for the time being or if we're shattered. No more taking Him for granted!!! Christ is all.
