Today in english, we were reading Oedipus Rex. Please realize that I was not paying attention at all. However, when the student reading got to the line, "Now I remember, oh Healer, your power and wonder," I looked up from my gchat conversation and flipped a few pages in the lit book-for I had fallen behind a bit-and found this line. I wish more than anything I could tell you the context, but I'm really not quite sure of it. All I know is that I immediately thought of my God. This line has nothing to do with Christianity, but, hey, it can go along with it! I mean, God heals. God is powerful. God is wonderful.
These are three of his many, many amazing qualities. Qualities that I sometimes look past. Qualities that I forget to be grateful for. I won't lie- many of his qualities slip to the back of my head, only to be brought back when I'm going through a time in which I need the comfort of that characteristic. I almost feel like I need an index card to carry around with me all of the time just so I can have a constant reminder of who God is.
Whether I'm on a mountaintop, or down in the depths of an unruly sea, I've got to remember that 1) God is there and 2) God is (insert word of your choice here). There is always a word for praising him. Always! But here's the cool thing. God is unchanging. Isaiah 26:4 calls him the Eternal Rock. He is eternally there. He is eternally unchanging. This means that all of those glorious qualities can be used to describe him at any time! When life is great, God is AWESOME! But when life isn't so good from our perspective, God is...wait for it... AWESOME!
I'm not sure if any of this makes sense. I have just been thinking about it today and wanted to get my thoughts out. In my opinion, it's just flat out cool to remember that even though God can be "versatile," his qualities never go away. It's all about whether or not we choose to see them. Honestly, I want to get better at seeing God as a whole and praising him for every single one of his traits regardless of what I'm going through. In Exodus 3:14, God tells Moses, "I am who I am." Hello, God. 1) You're legit. 2) Thanks for being who you are :)
